1 Timothy 6:6-8
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

Without humility, there can be no gratitude;
Without gratitude there can be no satisfaction;
Without satisfaction there can be no contentment;
Without contentment there can be no joy.

Humility is being grateful for all that the Lord has given. Pride is setting the heart’s desire to pursue or resent what has been forbidden, lost or withheld.

It is important to remember that apart from the Lord’s grace and the power of His Word, we would not even exist, much less have life or anything that is called “good.” 

It is only the pride of the sinful nature that deceives us to believe that we deserve more than the Lord has chosen to give us in His wisdom, according to His purposes.
